US VOTESMART
The Montgomery County Tea Party (MCTP), one of the most recognized political organizations in the local area and across Texas, has developed a unique candidate vetting program that has become known as the “Gold Standard” of voter guides.
Our vetting process carefully evaluates a candidate’s background, qualifications, character, and alignment with our core values. The results are shared with the voting public, including candidate scores and recommendations as illustrated on our voter guide—reflecting the informed opinions of the MCTP voting membership.

Candidates begin the vetting process by completing a detailed Questionnaire designed to assess their position on several issues and policies relevant to the office they are running for. If a candidate is unopposed and therefore not on the ballot, participation is optional but welcome (See Candidate Button below). The questionnaire will ask for some basic biographical information, along with policy and philosophical questions and all candidates will be asked to upload photos, bios and additional information that may be relevant to voters. In some cases, candidates may be invited to participate in a video interview to discuss specific issues and those videos will be made public after the endorsement decisions are completed.

For Non-Primary elections, selected candidates or issues will be vetted and the results posted here under Elections - MCTP Voter Guide.

In Primary years, the Vetting process begins in October prior to the March Primary vote. The Vetting Committee completes all analysis of questionnaires and interviews as needed, and reports their findings and recommendations to the MCTP Voting Membership on the 3rd Monday in January. In that meeting, the MCTP Voting Membership casts their vote to endorse or recommend certain candidates they believe best reflect their core values for inclusion in the MCTP Voter Guide. After the vote, candidates are informed of the decisions and the public website goes live (usvotesmart.org - see BUTTON BELOW) as a valuable resource that conservative voters can use to help them decide how to vote in the March Primary election.

The current race that is being vetted is: March 2026 Republican Primary Data for US VoteSmart expected to go live around 1/19/2026.
