The Montgomery County Tea Party (MCTP) announces an update to its previously published recommendation for Texas Railroad Commissioner. After receiving new information, the MCTP Board of Directors and Vetting Committee voted to replace Jim Wright with Bo French in our voter guide recommendations.
Following the completion of our vetting process, it was brought to our attention that Mr. Wright had made nearly $50,000 political contributions to Democratic candidates. This information was not disclosed or known during the original vetting review. The contribution was publicly reported by Texas Scorecard and confirmed through publicly available campaign finance records. As an organization committed to transparency, conservative principles, and maintaining the integrity of our Gold Standard vetting process, we believe this new information warranted immediate reconsideration.
Due to election timelines and publication deadlines, there was not sufficient time to call a properly noticed membership meeting prior to making this adjustment. In accordance with our governing procedures, the MCTP Board and Vetting Committee exercised their authority to act promptly in order to provide updated guidance to voters.
Our membership previously voted to approve the recommendations reflected in our voter guide. We believe this action is consistent with the values and expectations our members have expressed and aligns with our commitment to providing reliable, principled voter guidance.
This matter will be addressed in further detail at our next scheduled membership meeting.
The Montgomery County Tea Party remains committed to thorough candidate vetting, transparency, and equipping voters with trusted information ahead of the upcoming election.
